From August 4 to 6, the Cancer Research Institute and the Nano Life Science Institute of Kanazawa University held the “4th Cancer Research Early Exposure Program (Cancer EEP2025)” for high school students. This program aims to foster future researchers by offering opportunities to experience real research environments through seminars introducing cutting-edge cancer research and hands-on experimental activities.
This year, 79 students applied—mainly from the Hokuriku region. On August 4, 34 students participated in the "Classroom Session", and on August 5 and 6, 42 students joined the “Research Experience Session.”
In the "Classroom Session", four lecturers gave talks on their careers and research on the theme of "Career Design for Scientists: How Did You Become a Researcher? The panel discussion that followed was filled with laughter and surprise as the lecturers answered questions from high school students in their own unique ways. During the break time, the audience enjoyed sweets with the lecturers, and it was a meaningful time to get hints for their future career paths.
In the “Research Experience Session,” high school students were divided into small groups and engaged in experiments in various laboratories, allowing them to experience cutting-edge research firsthand. Lunch was held in the spacious open floor of the newly completed Mirai-Chi Demonstration Center, fostering deeper interaction among participants.
As part of recovery support for the Noto Peninsula Earthquake, transportation assistance was provided to high school students living in the Noto region, and all participants received locally produced sweets from Noto.
